A group of scientist from the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder Colorado has accidentally discovered that plants in the wild emitting methyl. According to them, under certain extreme condition such as too cold at night or too hot during the day the methyl salicylate emissions increased dramatically.
They believe that the methyl salicylate act like a painkiller to the plants and also act like some sort of communication medium between plants.
