On April 4, Xiaomi has officially announced to terminate rom support for their old smartphone.
The device affected is:
Redmi Note 4
Redmi 3S
Redmi 3x
Redmi 4A
Redmi 4
Redmi Note 3
Redmi Pro.
It means, all the smartphone above will not get the upcoming Miui 11 that promised to have less ads. However, normal community upgrade is not affected and for the time being, will still receive security update.
Most of us know that the main income for Xiaomi is not from the hardware. It's from the services and ads they cooked inside Miui. The drawback is, it's really affect user experience and the receive a lot of complaint about this.
I believe this is because Xiaomi need to use their resource to focus on ads placement on Miui 11 as they promise to cut down ads.
The other reason that came across my mind is that. By cutting down years of support to several device at once. Xiaomi can continue making same amount of revenue from all these device.
Question is. Will Xiaomi increase their device price to protect their revenue.
There's no indication that Xiaomi will move to that direction. But let's wait until the released of Miui 11.
Well, my Redmi Note 4 still serve me well. Still my daily driver. Yes i really feel annoyed seeing ads appear. But that's what we have to pay for a cheap, reliable and good performance phone.
