Fix my Pansonic F-M14C7 ceiling fan

This is my Pansonic F-M14C7 ceiling fan controller board. The fan goes out of control few days ago. I can't control the fan speed as well as turn off the fan using remote control.

A friend on mine told me to change one of the capasitor. So, I just took a wild guess. It must be the black one.

I print this photo and went to electronic spare part shop and ask for this capasitor. Unfortunately the capasitor information on the printout is not enough. The sales person told me there's another information printed on top of this capasitor.

Realized that I'm a bit frustrated, the shop guy take one capasitor, put it in front of me and say "This capasitor might work for your fan, but I cannot guarantee. If you willing to try, take for 4 ringgit". I agree with him, handed him 4 ringgit and bring the capasitor home.

Ok, this is how it look after I replace the capasitor. And yes... it's working. My Pansonic F-M14C7 ceiling fan is back on the ceiling.

Photo of the original capasitor. It's a Metallized Polyester Film Capacitor. You can search on Google using "ECQUL 40/100/21" keywords. I believe the sales person is looking for the .82uf value. The one that he gave me is 1.0uf.

I'm happy that my fan is still working. Save me a few hundred ringgit.

  1. Hi Budzer,

How are you? I'm using the same fan as you are.Seems like the age of our fan is the same (around 2years old).

I just noticed today that I can't control the speed as well as turning the fan off using remote. Symptom is more or less as you were having before.

Your blog is really helpful to me. I'm gonna try changing the component tomorrow. By the way, I guess the one that you have changed is called 'fan condenser' if i'm not mistaken(correct me if i'm wrong)

  6. Muhammad Paizal, take down the fan. from the top view you will see 6 screw, 3 for blade and other 3 for lower cap. Unscrew 3 screw for the lower cap. I can't remember all the detail but you will sure know what to do once you unscrew the lower cap. Hope that's help you.

  28. hi, i just ordered the replacement cap similar to your post.
    hopefully its the one.
if its not.. i guess trial n error on replacing all caps but anyone know the cost? the brown caps looks pricey to me.

well waiting for the capacitor and try it out soon.

    anyway slightly out of topic.
anyone know the connection if i were to bypass the pcb? any leads/links?

i just thinking of changing it to regulator fan in case the pcb really dead.
i pretty much sure that regulator configuration still need a capacitor attached to it just not sure the wiring diagram.
need some help with that (preferably same wire color code as per picture in the post white black red)

  29. Yes, it worked magically well for me too. My ceiling fan kept jerking and remote control failed to turn on/off and no speed adjustment at all. I bought the capacitors from Jalan Pasar this morning. Thanks to Budzer for his excellent article sharing with us.

    Well done bro!

  30. Guys, pls do not remove the entire ceiling fan off from the ceiling. You can easily remove the bottom tray cover by unlocking the tray anti-clock wise direction. Then, unscrew three screws to remove the centre tray so that you can locate the Circuit Board.

Once done, remove the two cable sockets. Be sure that u turn off the fan main switch on the wall before you remove the entire Circuit Board. It would be easier to unsolder the Black 0.82uF 250v capacitor. It cost me RM5.60 each only. I told the shopkeeper that friend of mine bought only RM4.00, but that guy told me that material cost has been increased tremendously.

All you need to do is to reverse the instructions when putting the Circuit Board back to the inner core. Hope this helps.

    1. In 2013, i bought this 1.0 275v poly capacitor online at ebay around 67 sen per piece. Though i have to buy 1 lot 10pcs. I bought 3 lot for spare because my panasonic wall fan also have this capacitor problem and it uses 1.0 uf polypropylene capacitor. In 2018, you can buy it at Aliexpress at the same price. Ebay now has less items and much higher price than aliexpress.

  42. My fan was stuck on medium and was unable to shut it off with the remote. I called Panasonic who said it would take two working days to come around. Four days passed and I found this site. I took out the control board and took it to a small electronics shop Tanjung Tokong, Pulau Penang. Picked it up the next day after paying RM10 and installed it and the fan is once again working as it should. Great advice for the DIYer. Thanks, Larry

  43. Had the similar problem with my KDK ceiling fan, was running on a constant speed and was jerking, remote not functioning. Open up the fan btm cover, the control board is similar to the Panasonic F-M14C7. had purchased the 0.82uF capacitor frm a electronic shop for RM3.50, it was slightly smaller compared to the original one(which was exactly same as Panasonic F-M14C7 ). Fixed it and walla, my fan is back to normal :).

  54. thanks. This fixed two f-m14c5 fans today. One more to go. Apparently half the f-m14c5 fans at my place had run into that problem over the years. I cannot believe those serviceman claiming its not repairable.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Thanks for that info budzer. Mine was the F-M-145C5 (4 blades) which went jerking and remote control unresponsive similar to yours. I didn't have the exact 0.82uF replacement, and settled for 1uF (400V) and size was bigger. Soldering the capacitor on the PCB track side was easier for me to place the capacitor between the PCB and the fan rotor - ample space. After replacement, all features including remote worked as normal. Thanks again.

  56. I have 3 units of these panasonic remote fans. All 3 are having the same PCB board issue. I replace 2 already with complete new PCB board bought from Pasar Road at KL. Seller claimed they were original replacement part supplied by Panasonic. Cost about RM65 to RM80.

Now, I will try to replace only the capacitor and see would it fix the problem.

Is it only me to feel the life span of these Pana fans are unreasonably short and Panasonic should had rectified the problem or stop marketing these fans.

  57. Thanks bro. Great DIY. I got 5 of this fan, and 4 is stuck at speed 1 and cannot use remote control. Went to Pasar road bought 5units of this thing for replacement @RM2.50 per piece. The fans are about 4years old.

  59. For F-M14C5, step to dismantle the cover:
    1. On top of the housing cover, there are 2 screws between the blades, loose the screw on the right, there are 4 of them.
    2. Oncer took out the housing cover, loose the 3 screws on the controller cover.
    3. The controller board is just clip on, you should be easily took it off and then unplug the 2 connection wire plug too.

    450VAC
    25/70/21

Can it be used? And I tried opening the cover but to no avail.

  64. Excellent blog. Thank you for the original post. I could not find the capacitor and if I had I dont think I could replace as you need to be good at soldering. However any Panasonic service centre will sell you the PCB board for 57RM. I bought in Kajang but also available in Kepong etc. I took my fan from the ceiling but I think you can put in the new board without removng. Just look at centre of fan where lights are you will see lock/unlock. Twist to unlock. Then you can see the circuit board. Remove the power imputs x 2 (make sure your electric for house ias switched off), unclip board and replace with new one...........so simple. My fan is working like new.

thanks for the update... need to get a sucker...
the concept is the same ..meaning the pcb board layout is the same as the KDK fan remote control board.

will go to pudu pasar tmrw... and get this fixed.

and yes the new board price + installation fees by kdk tech is 130..wtf to that.

but guys... the concept of capacitor is also the same issue as no cold air from your air-cond.

U have to open up the compressor box up... the capacitor is a big cylinder looking in black shade.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I have change both capacitors and I can control the speed but not getting the same speed as my another Panasonic fan.Price for capacitors is RM 3.80.

The price of the new board is RM58 in Pasar Road. I have search in few shops there and almost the same price. They have a board for 4 blade and 5 blade.

Planning to change different fan now. No more trust in Panasonic ceiling fan.

Many thanks for the tips. It works for my Panasonic PCB F-MY143 too.

  111. My fan is KDK K15Y6, about 11 years old. Having same symptom once about 4 years back, asked KDK technician came and changed cause me around RM160 or so (could not remember), I did not keep the old PCB board - what a waste. Now the fan is facing same problem again, luckily, found the blog and went to Jalan Pasar searching for new PCB board, but too bad, only left new one which cause around RM135 and need to order. So I decided to change both 0.82 & 0.1 uf capacitor. Waalaa, my fan back to normal. But not sure can last for how long.

  112. I have 5 panasonic bayu fans (3 years+), 4 F-M14E2 and 1 F-M15E2,few months ago 1 F-M14E2 in the dining room was very noisy giving "woo woo woo..." sound and the fan runs very slow, speed 3=speed 2 of the other fans, speed 4 just slightly faster then speed 3 and speed 5 go slower.
I took out the PCB and there is no 6.8uF on the board, instead I saw a block square 0.1uF and 4 brown-red rated 1.8uF, 2.4uF, 3.4uF and 5.0uF.
I don't know which one to change, so I bought a digital multi meter UNIT163B (rm71) to measure the capacitance.
I found the 0.1uF only read 47nF and the 1.8uF only read 501nF and the others are okay.
I went to SS2 but only can get the 0.1uF (1.8uF no stock). So I went to SS20 LKL Sunrise electronics and also no stock but the girl said if for Fans 1.5uF or 2.0uF also can use. I bought the 2.0uF and after I replaced the 2 faulty capacitors it works fine.
No more "woo woo woo.." sound and all the speeds also works fine (can't actually differantiate the speed with other fan although the capacitance is slightly higher)

  115. Hi I wish to know do this tips an repairing apply Panasonic f-m14e8, I see the caps is almost the same. Can we test the PCB board after changing the caps without fixing back to the ceiling fan. Thanks.

  116. the easiest way is plug it into the fan and test. After all, it is just a connector to plug in. Either it works or fails.

  117. Thanks kokhon.ng for your reply. The things is that I don't have a multi meter to test the capacitor which is at fault. In other words I will replace one by one to try it and know which is the likely cap. which cause the problem for future changing. I thinking of connecting it to a exhaust fan for trial but not sure it will work. The following items. 0.82uf 275vac, 5.0uF 250VAC, 3.4uF 250VAC, 2.4uF 250VAC, .1uF 250VAC. 330uF 35V. Can anyone get it for me. I will pay whatever the charges in sending it to me (at BM. Penang). Hoping to hear from you all.

  118. Hi cheekin, basically should be 1 component damage. No need to buy all these parts together. You can buy online at element14.my and is FOC delivery. I suggest you try with ECQU2A105ML to replace the 0.82uF.

  120. My Panasonic bayu fan starts with an irritating electrical hum for a few minutes (at any speed). Any idea on how to solve this? I have no problem with the remote control at all. Just would like to get better ideas on this humming noise problem. Thanks.

  121. I took sometimes to catch similar humming noise. It's like electrical coil humming noise. Had checked all capacitors on the circuit board, all mounting screws are all perfect. At last when I removed the plastic cover between ceiling and fan. Surprisingly the noise disappeared. Fix back cover noise comes back. Found that this plastic cover can't be adjusted too high up too close towards the ceiling. Tried 3 step down. Humming noise gone. Already more than 6 months, enjoy quiet fan.
Have a try. It could be other things.
    Regards

  123. Hi Budzer , thanks for the blog. Changed capacitor C1 & C2 and yahoo, it works! RM 5 for parts & some soldering. Parts were from i Way Trans Electronics, as mentioned above (tq). I have added the shop's location and now it's searchable in Google Maps.
I had removed the fan from the ceiling as I had not seen this post at that time. Did not have to as the two lower plastic covers are easily removable. The circuit board is accessible then.
